About Waikiki Adventure Guide

Who writes this guide, why it exists, and how we decide what makes the list.

Waikiki Adventure Guide is written by a small team of Hawaii locals with decades in the water-sports and tour world on Oʻahu and the neighbor islands. We know the captains, guides and crews behind every trip on this list, we have been out on every one of them, and we spend more mornings at Kewalo Basin and Haleʻiwa Harbor than anywhere else.

Why this site exists

Most “things to do in Waikiki” lists are assembled far from the island by people who have never checked in a guest at 7 am, read a swell forecast, or watched the trade winds fill in over Māmala Bay at noon. They rank whatever pays the highest commission. We wanted a short list that a local would hand to a friend staying in Waikiki: one operator per activity, chosen because it is the best, with real prices, real restrictions and the fine print spelled out, and with honest drive times so a North Shore day does not eat your whole vacation.

How we pick

In Japanese too

Waikiki is the most Japanese-friendly place in the United States, and this guide is written in Japanese as well as English: 日本語版はこちら. Same list, same prices, same honest fine print.
